In the Field

Spruce cone on Horsetail. Sheep River Wildlife Sanctuary, AB, Canada. September 1, 1984.

This shot is typical of the type of simple, natural composition (or natural art!) that attracts my eye. This image is pretty ancient - it dates back to the early 80's. I was walking along a stream in a dense spruce forest when I noticed this spruce cone delicately balancing on a bed of horsetail. I actually had to do little more than select an aperture, compose the image, and shoot. What's that old saying..."F8 and BE THERE!" Yep, ya gotta be there (and have your camera with you!).
