In the Field

Foxtails and Civil Bluet. Findlay Creek, BC, Canada. July 18, 2004.

I love foxtails. I love their texture, how they interact with even the lightest of breezes, and their range of colours - from deep green through to an almost white tone of magenta. I spotted this Civil Bluet damselfly perched within a thick patch of foxtails along the side of pond. There was a breeze blowing and I thought it unlikely the damselfly would sit still on its bobbing perch long enough for me to grab a quick shot. But...my luck held and the damselfly held it's position. And, then my luck turned even more - the breeze backed off and the foxtails near the damselfly took on a more upright "stance". In fact, most of the ones within my plane of focus decided to fully cooperate with me and angle their bristles almost directly at the damselfly! Sometimes you just get a lucky break!
