In the Field

Green-winged, Green Water. Sheep River Wildlife Sanctuary, Alberta, Canada. Circa 1982.

Another ancient image from the archives, but one that demonstrates a point...

When photographing wildlife I try to watch for eye-catching colour relationshops between the animal's plumage/pelage and the surrounding environment. Green-wing Teals are, largely, drab brown ducks, EXCEPT for the striking green patch that shows on their wing. When I came across this juvenile Green-wing I was struck by how well the wing patch colour worked with the colour of the forest in the reflected pond water.
